Debra Nakamarra Pintupi Language Group Untitled 91 x 91cms Ref No: DN0708108 This painting depicts designs associated with the rockholeand cave site of Tjintjintjin, just to the west of the Kintore community in Western Australia. The roundels and lines in the painting depict the geographical features in the area through which an old woman passed during her travels. At this site the woman knew of an ancestral kuniya (snake) that lived underground. She proceeded to dig a hole in search of the kuniya that lived underground, eventually locating it and killing it. She then cooked and ate it before continuing her travels east. During her travels she also gathered the edible berries known as kampurarrpa (desert raisin) . The smalle circles in the painting represent the kampurarrpa. |
